A prayer of David. Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips (17:1)

Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal (17:2)

Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress (17:3)

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer (17:4)

Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not (17:5)

I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech (17:6)

Show thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them (17:7)

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings (17:8)

From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about (17:9)

They are enclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly (17:10)

They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth (17:11)

Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places (17:12)

Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword (17:13)

From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes (17:14)

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness (17:15)

A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me (35:1)

Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help (35:2)

Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation (35:3)

Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt (35:4)

Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them (35:5)

Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the Lord persecute them (35:6)

For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul (35:7)

Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall (35:8)

And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation (35:9)

All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him (35:10)

False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not (35:11)

They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul (35:12)

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom (35:13)

I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother (35:14)

But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not (35:15)

With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth (35:16)

Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions (35:17)

I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people (35:18)

Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause (35:19)

For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land (35:20)

Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it (35:21)

This thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me (35:22)

Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord (35:23)

Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me (35:24)

Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up (35:25)

Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me (35:26)

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant (35:27)

And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long (35:28)

To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually (52:1)

Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully (52:2)

Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah (52:3)

Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue (52:4)

God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah (52:5)

The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him (52:6)

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness (52:7)

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever (52:8)

I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints (52:9)

To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David. Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men (58:1)

Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth (58:2)

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies (58:3)

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear (58:4)

Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely (58:5)

Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord (58:6)

Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces (58:7)

As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun (58:8)

Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath (58:9)

The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked (58:10)

So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth (58:11)

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy (64:1)

Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity (64:2)

Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words (64:3)

That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not (64:4)

They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them (64:5)

They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep (64:6)

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded (64:7)

So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away (64:8)

And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing (64:9)

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory (64:10)

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise (109:1)

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue (109:2)

They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause (109:3)

For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer (109:4)

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love (109:5)

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand (109:6)

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin (109:7)

Let his days be few; and let another take his office (109:8)

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow (109:9)

Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places (109:10)

Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour (109:11)

Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children (109:12)

Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out (109:13)

Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out (109:14)

Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth (109:15)

Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart (109:16)

As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him (109:17)

As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones (109:18)

Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually (109:19)

Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul (109:20)

But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me (109:21)

For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me (109:22)

I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust (109:23)

My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness (109:24)

I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads (109:25)

Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy (109:26)

That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it (109:27)

Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice (109:28)

Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle (109:29)

I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude (109:30)

For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul (109:31)

Maschil of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave. I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication (142:1)

I poured out my complaint before him; I showed before him my trouble (142:2)

When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me (142:3)

I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul (142:4)

I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living (142:5)

Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I (142:6)

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me (142:7)
